What is net zero?

Net zero means balancing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that go into – and are removed from – the atmosphere. It simply means we stop adding to the problem of global warming. The goal is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

This change means that we will be switching from coal fired power to renewable energy, like wind and solar power, bringing new energy to homes and businesses.

This will involve lots of investment and to create new jobs, especially in regional areas. New industries will open up that are based on clean energy and our abundant mineral resources.
