In October, the University of New South Wales Institute for Climate Risk & Response hosted an industry forum, to consider the risks and opportunities of climate change.

The two-day event focused on interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration in the development and opportunities of climate risk and response. It also showcased the work of early career researchers, and of Australia in leading on climate change.

Matt Kean, Chair of the Climate Change Authority opened the forum, discussing the opportunity of renewable energy and 'the new economy'.

'In the new economy we are the lucky country,' said Mr Kean, 'because of our land, and abundance of wind and solar.'

He said that by leveraging ideas and research Australia can create a platform for collaboration between industry, government and society to address the risks and opportunities of climate change. He emphasised that behavioural change is critically important to our common objective of achievning net zero.

The conference heard from academics and government representatives, including Ben Newell, Wesley Morgan, Verity Firth, Tim Raupach, Andrew Pitman, Jacqueline Peel, David Jenkins and Jillian Broadbent.

The Net Zero Economy Agency is responsible for promoting orderly and positive economic transformation, to ensure Australia, its regions and workers realise and share the benefits of the net zero economy.
