Privacy Notice
The Net Zero Economy Authority (the Authority) handles your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This Privacy Notice explains what information is collected when you interact with the Authority through our website, subscription services and other digital platforms (such as X, LinkedIn and Facebook) that are used by us to undertake our functions and activities.

Our Privacy Policy also contains information about how you can access or correct information about you which is held by the Authority. Our Privacy Policy contains details about how you can make a complaint about a breach of the Privacy Act by us, and how we will deal with such a complaint.
How we collect personal information
We collect information in a range of ways, including when you:
- visit our website
- contact us through our online forms or email us
- use social media to communicate with us or to view information we post (such as videos and social media posts) and
- subscribe to our newsletters.
Our websites: data analytics and service improvement
We use Google Analytics to measure website use and improve your experience of our website and our communications. For example, we use this information to:
- find out when our systems are not working as expected
- understand user needs and what is hard to use on our online services and applications
- learn where we can streamline services
- cater for the different types of browsers and devices you use
- develop relevant support information to help you interact with us and
- improve our ability to assist stakeholders when they contact us for help.
Google Analytics transmits website traffic data to Google servers in the United States of America (USA). Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. We use reports provided by Google Analytics to help us understand website traffic and webpage usage.

We may use other third party analytics tools as well (such as Sprinklr) along with Google Analytics for the purpose of improving our communications with you and the public.
The types of information we may collect from third party analytic tools includes:
- Internet Protocol (IP) address
- browser and operating system, for example whether you use Internet Explorer or Chrome, Windows or iOS
- date and time of website visit
- pages visited, mouse clicks and documents downloaded from our websites
- device type, model, screen size and orientation
- language and geographic location (city/country) preferences (if enabled)
- demographics and interests, for example age bracket and gender, along with interests expressed through online behaviour
- fields you have entered information into (such as search terms)
- how long it took to do certain tasks or
- how you move through pages and the referring domain and outlink, if applicable.
To improve your experience on our site, we may also use 'cookies'. Cookies are pieces of information that a website can transfer to an individual's computer hard drive or hand held device for record keeping. Cookies can make websites easier to use by storing information about your preferences on a particular website. The information is used by us to help improve our website by understanding how it is used and effective communication methods for diverse audiences. Third party sites that we use to communicate with the public about our work (e.g.: X, Facebook and YouTube) may also send their own cookies to your computer. Contacting us
When you email us or contact us using our online forms, we collect your personal information, such as your email address for the purpose of dealing with your inquiry or complaint.
If you choose not to provide us with your personal information, we may not be able to respond to your inquiry or complaint.
When you ask a question through a Community Information Hub, whether using a mobile or static device, your name, email address and any other information submitted by you will be collected and stored on a secure database.
The information we collect will only be used for the purpose for which it is provided by you, and your email address will not be used for any other purpose, such as a mailing lists or for research purposes, unless provided by you specifically for that purpose.
We may disclose your personal information to another government agency or organisation if that agency or organisation is better placed to assist you or respond to your inquiry.
Some examples of when information may be provided to another person without your consent include in the event of an investigation into suspected unlawful or improper activity or when a law enforcement agency or government agency may exercise its legal authority to inspect the web server's records (e.g. in relation to hacking or abusive messages).
Subscription services
When you subscribe to one of our newsletters or other subscription services we collect your personal information for the purpose of providing you with the subscription service.
We may use Campaign Monitor(Opens in a new tab/window) to provide services related to your subscription and we share your personal information with Campaign Monitor for this purpose. We may also use Campaign Monitor’s analytics tools for the purpose of improving our communications with you. Personal information held by Campaign Monitor is handled in accordance with Campaign Monitor's Privacy Policy(Opens in a new tab/window).
Please note, Campaign Monitor’s website and subscription services are provided, supported and hosted on servers in the USA. This means that your personal information may be sent overseas, stored and shared by Campaign Monitor in the USA, including with other countries. In that case, the privacy protection laws of the United Kingdom, European Union and USA may also apply to your personal information.
If you choose not to provide us with the personal information we request, we may not be able to provide the subscription service to you. However, if you contact us we will assist you to access our newsletter services in another way, wherever possible.
Social media
We use digital platforms (including X, Facebook, Instagram, Vimeo, YouTube and LinkedIn) to communicate with the public about our work. When you communicate with us using these services we may collect your personal information for the purpose of engaging with and understanding community views.
Digital platforms handle your personal information for their own purposes and may conduct analytics in accordance with their own privacy policies. Social media moderation guidelines
The Moderation Guidelines are in addition to the Terms of Service of the social media platform.
Social media accounts are moderated during business hours.
The Australian Government has strict guidelines on discrimination and intimidation. We will not respond to, or accept content which is irrelevant, pornographic, discriminatory, hateful or threatening, and actions which may offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate.
When contributing your questions and comments, we encourage you to:
- Protect your personal privacy and that of others by not including personal information about yourself or others (such as names, email addresses, private addresses or phone numbers). Posts or comments containing personal information may be hidden or removed.
- Post material that is relevant to the topics and issues being discussed, particularly if you are seeking a response from the Authority.
- Represent your own views and do not impersonate or falsely represent any other person.
We will never respond to, but may report, remove or block posts or users that:
- abuse, harass or threaten others
- racially or religiously vilify others
- incite, induce or aid violence, discriminate, harass, victimise or provoke hatred towards others, or are likely to offend, insult or humiliate others, particularly on the basis of their race, colour, descent, national origin, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation or any disability
- make defamatory comments
- use insulting, provocative or hateful language or images
- use obscene or offensive language or images
- use material that infringes the intellectual property rights of others
- are multiple versions of the same view to the forum
- promote commercial interests
- promote personal and professional interests not relevant to the work of the Authority
- are overtly party-political comments (e.g. reference to candidates, fundraisers, support for political parties) or
- incite, encourage or make reference to conduct that may constitute a criminal or civil offence or otherwise violate Australian law.
