Regional Workforce Transition Plans
Regional Workforce Transition Plans (Transition Plans) will support the government’s vision of achieving a smooth workforce transition as Australia moves to a net zero economy.
Transition Plans will help coordinate employment and skills supports to enable regions to manage the impact of closures while maximising the benefits of the transition.
The Authority, with the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), will develop Transition Plans to support workers, their families and communities in regions that are, or will be significantly impacted by Australia’s transition to a net zero emissions economy. This includes workers not covered by the Energy Industry Jobs Plan(Opens in a new tab/window).
How do Regional Workforce Transition Plans work
The Regional Workforce Transition Plans will be tailored to a region to ensure the supports meet the needs of the community.
We will work closely with DEWR and different levels of government, employers, communities, and unions to develop and deliver plans. The supports offered could include:
- case management
- career guidance
- community hubs
- skills, training and reskilling support
- job search assistance
- financial planning and advice
- wellbeing supports
- relocation and travel assistance
- information, including on local labour markets and emerging career opportunities.
Where Regional Workforce Transition Plans will be made available
We will work with the following regions to supplement any state based plans and, where needed, deliver Regional Workforce Transition Plans:
- Gladstone, Queensland
- Latrobe Valley, Victoria
- Hunter, New South Wales
- Collie, Western Australia.
