The Net Zero Economy Authority (the Authority) Board held its third meeting in Sydney, in person.
The Board reviewed the declared interests of members and confirmed there are no conflicts with matters under consideration at the meeting.
The CEO provided an update on the work of the Authority, including its establishment.
The Board agreed the Authority’s vision, consistent with the objects in the Net Zero Economy Authority Act 2024 (the Act). The vision will be to deliver better futures for industrial regions, communities and workers in a net zero economy. The vision will underpin all of the Authority’s work.
The Board also agreed that three missions will guide efforts across the organisation:
- Help workers in coal and gas facilities affected by the transition to prepare for and find new well paid, safe and secure jobs.
- Support communities significantly affected by the transition to net zero to prosper including, through economic development and investment.
- Be a trusted and influential voice to build understanding of, and shape policy on, the regional net zero transition.
The Board noted current and planned monitoring activities, in particular the development of a regional transition monitoring framework and settled the approach for the development of the Authority’s first Corporate Plan, which it will seek to publish in June 2025.
The Board discussed issues relevant to key work streams under the Energy Industry Jobs Plan (EIJP). This included the approach to EIJP redeployment supports to be administered by the Authority, preparations for the 12-month review of Part 5 of the Act and the CEO’s approach to stakeholder engagement in relation to the Authority’s worker transition function.
The Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee provided an update to the Board from its last meeting.
The Board agreed its next meeting in mid-May will be held in Canberra.
